A pharmacy technician is a highly-trained individual working directly under the superintendence of a licensed pharmacist in doing a myriad of pharmacy-related duties and responsibilities. Most of the time, they are responsible for preparing and dispensing medicine, but they can also be assigned other routine tasks such as receiving and verifying prescriptions, inventory maintenance, pricing and filing of prescriptions, as well as recording of patient history. In order to become proficient as a pharmacy technician , one must not only be physically fit, but also possess other important characteristics such as above-average dexterity, ability to work with precision and accuracy even under intense pressure, excellent attention to detail, reliable judgement, and superior customer-relation and communication skills. An individual can usually prepare himself to become a pharmacy technician by receiving on-the-job training, but in the recent years, more and more employers are having preference over those who have undergone formal schooling, received certification or licensing, and sufficient working experience as well. A pharmacy technician usually finds employment in major drugstore chains, although they can also find plenty of opportunities in hospitals and clinics, pharmaceutical firms, and government offices as well.
